inside their car a block away near 12th street. so far, police have no suspects or motives. contra costa county now an outpouring of grief and support after the murder of a retired schoolteacher there. hundreds of mourners marched behind the husband and the children of susie ko last night as they walked to a vigil. her body was found on friday. her husband had called a neighbor to check on her after she didn't pick him up at the airport. police say she had been stabbed and suffered blunt-force trauma to the head. >> i was so devastated. i couldn't believe it was really happening. but, of course, it did. >> last homicide we had here was 2010. we have only had 5 homicides in the last 11 years. >> the fbi is assisting in the case because police in hercules do not have all the necessary resources. authorities are hoping to find susie ko's 2011 blue subaru outback with an idaho license plate. you saw it there.

the car was taken from the home's garage between 7:00 and 10:00 at night on friday. a decision is likely this afternoon on the fate of ross mirkarimi the suspended san francisco sheriff. the board of supervisors is voting on whether to remove him from office for good. cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington is in san francisco with more on what is at stake. good morning. reporter: good morning. this case has played out for months at city hall and this decision a big deal because it could set the precedent for misconduct cases in the future. sheriff ross mirkarimi pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor relating to a domestic violence dispute that left his wife with a bruised arm on new year's eve. nine months later we could find out if he stays or if he goes for official misconduct. his wife eliana lopez showed her neighbor a bruised arm which you can see in this video after her husband grabbed her during an argument. mirkarimi was sentenced to three years' probation, fined

and ordered to undergo counseling. he was also placed on unpaid leave by mayor ed lee. since then, mirkarimi has been fighting for his job. his attorney says that the marital incident has nothing to do with his role has sheriff and he was also voted in. mayor lee wants him out taking steps to permanently remove him saying that mirkarimi's guilty plea makes him unfit to hold office. >> we are making already changes and great changes that were in the queue for reform. that should be allowed to continue based on voter will and not let what's an undemocratic process interfere so there's a consolidation of power. >> these are charges that have been sustained by the ethics commission and the ones at the forefront of making sure we hold high the standards of the office of the sheriff in confirming that and i look forward to the board doing the same. >> reporter: here's what will happen today. the san francisco board of supervisors will meet at city hall at 2:00. there will be a 10-minute presentation then of votes. nine of those 11 supervisors

5:07. in about an hour the sentencing hearing of convicted sex offender jerry sandusky begins in a pennsylvania courtroom. the former penn state football coach was found guilty of 45 counts of child sexual abuse back in june. by law, those counts would add up to a minimum of 220 years behind bars. despite his conviction, though, sandusky insisted in an audio statement that he is innocent of all the charges. >> they can take away my life, they can make me out as a monster. they can treat me as a monster, but they can't take away my heart." >> sandusky also blamed his arrest and conviction on a conspiracy crafted by accusers, investigators and the media. relatives of the former coach are expected to submit letters of support while at least two victims will address sandusky today directly. the nationwide meningitis outlook has claimed its ninth victim of the the latest death was reported last night in nashville, tennessee. cdc says as many as 13,000

people received steroid shots contaminated with that fungus that can cause the deadly disease. the medication has been recalled in 23 states. it could affect patients injected for pain in the back, knees and shoulders. the outbreak has sickened 105 people all across the country. the search continues for a yosemite national park worker. 23-year-old jessica garcia was supposed to be at work sunday morning at the wawona hotel but never showed up for work. she was last seen walking in the park on saturday. the park helicopter as well as 23 rangers on foot will resume the search today. today elect leaders in oakland will announce a new plan to prevent foreclosures just in the past four months more than 800 notices of default were filed in the city of oakland. the mayor there jean quan and others have a plan that involves state help and participation by some major lenders, as well. a state judge has temporarily suspended public hearings on the deadly san bruno natural gas pipeline

explosion a few years back. the break will allow time for private negotiations regarding the fines to be levied against pg&e. public proceedings will resume though next week. that blast killed 8 people and destroyed dozens of homes more than two years ago. california gas prices are sky high the most expensive in the nation. bay area drivers are fed up as you can imagine and some state leaders are now demanding answers. the average gallon of regular gas is $4.74 in san francisco. 4.68 in oakland and $4.67 in san jose. california senator dianne feinstein wants a federal investigation. she is citing malicious trading schemes in the california gas market. at the same time, governor jerry brown has given an order to allow higher polluting winter blend gas to be sold in the state. he says he wants to make more fuel available to drive down the price. an energy expert says companies gaming the system is not the problem. >> the problem is we use a blend of gasoline that's not

our sensors. but no overnight roadwork in lanes on highway 4 looking good so far this morning through antioch. that's a check of your "timesaver traffic." lawrence has been monitoring what looks like a good band or something going on on your hi- def doppler. impressive. >> low pressure spinning off the coastline does look impressive and it looks like we have at least a slight chance of some showers. the core of the low will stay off the coastline so yeah, looks impressive there but most of that moisture is going to start to slight to the south with the area of low pressure. we have had a couple of lightning strikes embedded in the system off the coast. so yeah, we may just see it. it's only a few miles off the coast. we could see scattered showers pop up coastside but the rest of the bay area looking okay. so getting interesting with the hi-def doppler out the door a lot of clouds at the coast. a few clouds inside the bay and partly cloudy in the valleys. temperatures mainly in the 40s right now. as we look toward the afternoon, still a slight chance of some showers near the coastline as that low is slowly going to meander near the coast the better part of the next 24

charges for shooting at passengers inside a truck this past april. in a half hour the sentencing hearing of convicted sex offender jerry sandusky begins in a pennsylvania courtroom. some of the folks are just now arriving. i believe that's his attorney as he goes into the courtroom. mr. sandusky has been convicted so he is already inside the courtroom. former penn state football coach was found guilty of 45 counts of child sexual abuse back in june. by law, those counts would add up to 220 years in jail. despite his conviction, sandusky insists in an audio statement that he is innocent of all the charges. they can take away my life, they can make me out as a monster and treat me as a monster but they can't take away my heart. >> sandusky also blamed his arrest and conviction on a conspiracy crafted by accusers, investigators and the media. relatives of the former coach

time for weather at 5:47. it's all about rain and our weatherman is pretty geeked up. >> i am. this is about as exciting as it's been for months of talking about low clouds and fog. now we have low pressure off the coastline and this time of the year things shift gears and we talk about rain. doppler radar is picking up on some of the rain off the coast. getting close to point reyes, wouldn't be surprised if we're starting to see a couple of light showers out toward the lighthouse there, but most will stay off the coast. low clouds this morning, partly cloudy this afternoon, still a slight chance of showers most of that right along the coastline. that's where the core of the low will continue to work its way. so it's going to stay off the coast. it's not going to move onshore but there's a chance we could see a couple of these bands moving onshore carrying some light showers as we head throughout the morning hours and into the afternoon. but that low is going to drag all the way to the south ever so slowly so staying unsettled today into tomorrow, as well. around the state, you have about 76 degrees a few clouds

into sacramento, 77 degrees in fresno. a chance of a couple of thunderstorms into ukiah. partly cloudy into the monterey bay and around our bay we're looking good toward the afternoon. partly cloudy, 71 in san jose, 70 milpitas, maybe mid-70s in the warmest parts of the valleys but as you approach the coastline again a few more clouds slight chance of showers, temperatures cooler too about 62 degrees in daly city and about 65 degrees in bodega bay. next couple of days we'll keep things unsettled then a brief break on thursday. another system on friday to bring another slight chance of showers then drying out warming up over the weekend. let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> we have a couple of things going on. first a check of the bay bridge toll plaza. starting to get backed up a little bit in those cash lanes so no metering lights yet but you will see those brake lights there approaching the pay gates. so we'll see bigger delays a little later on. we'll let you know as soon as they turn the metering lights on. let's go to the maps show you a couple of other things. we'll continue to follow this injury crash southbound 880 a slight location change right there before 238. if there is a bit of a delay

block of the left lane. also we have just learned there's some late running roadwork. a caltrains crews are picking up overnight roadwork on northbound 101 around the 380 interchange so this is north of sfo. but it is causing some delays until about 6:00 this morning. apparently three of the left lanes are blocked. so big delays right now actually. we are seeing some speeds below 25 miles per hour. they may be running a quick traffic break to completely clear it but we'll let you know as soon as they do. we also have of course the president in town. there are a number of road closures south of market in san francisco. howard between 4th and 5th and 4th between folsom and mission. a little later on this morning about 9:30 the president least for sfo bound for air force one so you may find rolling closures and delays along 101 leaving san francisco between san francisco and san bruno. quick look at westbound 580 leaving the livermore area. here's a live look approaching the dublin-pleasanton area. about a 15-minute drive time between the altamont pass and

pregnancy and attention deficit hyper activity disorder in kids. study looked at 400 children and found an increased risk of adhd behavior in kids whose mothers are higher levels of mercury. some fish included tuna and swordfish which have higher levels of mercury. san francisco is about to get its first target store. the doors open for everybody tomorrow but tonight there is a ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration. in august, hundreds of people turned up for a job fair for the store at the metreon center at 4th and mission. this store is maller than most target stores and won't sell large items that are hard to carry home. high-end department store nieman marcus is set to release its annual christmas book loaded with plenty of indulgent gifts including a $42,000 tour of european flower shops on a private jet. hm. and a $250,000 hand made mahogany speedboat.
